Is my loft suitable for conversion?
You would be unlucky if could not convert your loft, as 99% of lofts can be converted.
Can I convert my trussed rafter roof?
Yes is the answer. Although there is a bit more work involved, as you will need at least 3 RSJ’s (Rolled Steel Joists) to support the existing roof.
Can I convert my traditional rafter/perlin roof?
Yes, it is much more straightforward to convert this style of roof construction.
Is there a minimum headroom height requirement when converting my loft space?
There is no specific regulation on height in a loft conversion, however in our opinion you would want a minimum of 2.2m head height to really make the best of the space.
A building regulation to bear in mind is that there is a minimum headroom required over the flight of the staircase/landing.
Can I lower my ceilings on the first floor to allow extra head room in the loft conversion?
Yes, this is something we do on a regular basis.
What would be the average cost to convert my loft?
This would depend on the type of property you have. Do you require a dormer conversion for example or do you want an en-suite bathroom to be fitted? Will a loft conversion add value to my home?
It will add value to your house for sure, but you may not get back the full amount of the build in the current climate given the way house prices are. Anyone who has converted their loft knows that the true value of having that extra space upstairs goes further than can be counted in numbers!
How long would it take to convert my loft?
This again all depends on your individual job. It would take around 4 weeks for a Velux loft conversion and 6 to 7 weeks for a dormer loft conversion.
Who will deal with the local authorities?
We will do all the paperwork and arrange for and attend the inspections as and when needed.
Will we have professionally drawn up and signed contracts to get everything down in writing beforehand?
Yes. On all of our projects we will draw up contracts and both parties sign these before work commences. We will include a copy of your full cancellation rights also.

We would usually take a deposit of 15% of the overall job value then, depending on the size of the job, break it down into manageable stage payments. We only ask for the final payment once you are 100% satisfied with your new room.

Yes, every aspect of your conversion, right from your very first phone call through to completion.
Have you got any accreditation?

Do you hold full Public and Employers Liability Insurance?
Yes, our policy covers us for no less than five million pounds. A copy will be sent to you with your quotation. Policy number: DLC100042542 (with Direct Line for Business).
Will there be a lot of mess and disruption?
We take great care in keeping the mess on site to a minimum, and there will be minimal disruption.
Do you have a project manager who will oversee the conversion project?
Yes, we project-manage our work, so you can rest assured your conversion will go smoothly. He will liaise with you directly and regularly to make sure you get your dream job.
Do you use full-time staff or do you use subcontractors?
We do not use subcontractors full-stop. All of our lads are cards-in, time-served, tradesmen.
Would we be able to come to your place of work and see how Granada Home Improvements operate?

How soon after accepting my quotation can you start?
We can usually begin your loft conversion within a couple of weeks of getting the green light from you. This gives us time to match your brick and to make all the arrangements with your local authority. In this time we will also sign all the necessary contracts, take measurements and set your site up ready for commencement.
